Where are favorites stored when a customer isn't logged in?
They are stored in the browser on the customer's device (localStorage). They are not sent to the server until the customer logs in.
How long are they kept, and what are the limits?
- How long they're kept
- Up to 30 days. Older favorites are deleted automatically.
- Limit
- 50 products and 50 collections. When the limit is reached, a message asks the customer to log in, and they can't add more.
- After logging in
- Favorites move to the customer's account automatically. After that, they are kept with no time limit.
What should I know about the transfer at login?
When the transfer is complete, the message "Saved favorites to your account (N)" appears. N is the number of favorites actually saved. Favorites over your plan's limit are not transferred. For example, the Free plan allows 30 favorites across the whole store, so even if a customer saved the maximum of 50 while logged out, only some of them may be saved.
What if a customer says their favorites disappeared?
Favorites may disappear before 30 days in these cases:
- The customer uses Safari on iPhone or Mac and hasn't visited your store for about 7 days
- The customer used private browsing and closed the tab
- The customer deleted site data in their browser
- The customer switched to another device or browser (favorites can't be carried over)
Ask customers to log in before saving. This information is also shown on the app dashboard.
What happens if the browser can't store favorites?
If the browser can't store data, clicking the button shows a "Log in to save favorites" screen that asks the customer to log in or sign up.
