What can Staff Snap do?
Show your store staff's outfit photos on your store, with pins on each photo that take shoppers to product detail pages. You manage everything by staff member: go from the staff list to a staff member's detail page, then manage that person's photos. In the app, an outfit photo is called a "snap".
Photos are posted by store managers or ecommerce staff who use the app's admin screens. On the Pro plan, staff members can also post their own snaps from a smartphone without a Shopify account, using an invite link and a PIN code. For details, see "Staff Snap: posting photos and tagging products".
About the setup guide
When you open the app, a setup guide titled "Welcome to Staff Snap" appears until setup is finished. It shows the four steps below, and each finished step is marked "Done".
- Add staffUse "Add staff".
- Add snaps and tag productsContinue from "Go to Staff".
- Show on your storefrontUse "Storefront" to get your theme ready.
- Choose a plan (optional)Pick one from "View plans".
Once setup is finished, the app opens to the staff list. You can also check how to place blocks and more in "Setup guide" in the left menu.
How to publish your first photo
- Add a staff memberSelect "Add staff", enter a name and save. Everything except the name is optional. "Publish to storefront" is on by default.
- Add a photoOn the staff detail page, upload an outfit photo with "+ Add photo". When the upload finishes, the "Edit snap" screen opens.
- Tag productsUse "+ Add product" to choose the products in the photo, click the photo to place a pin, and save. Only snaps with at least one tagged product are published to your store.
- Check the Storefront pageIn "Storefront" in the left menu, check that every item under "Setup status" is OK. For any item that isn't set up, follow the on-screen guidance in the theme editor.
- Add blocks in the theme editorIn the theme editor, choose "Add section" > "Apps", add the block that fits your goal to the page where you want it, and save.
- Check your storeOpen the store page and make sure the pins take you to product pages.
The app automatically creates a "Staff" page that shows your staff list. To add it to your store's navigation, add it in Content > Menus in your Shopify admin.
The three blocks you can add to your theme
| Block | Where it can go | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| "Staff list (home and other pages)" | The home page, the "Staff" page and similar pages | Shows the staff in the selected staff list as cards. "Details" opens the staff detail page. |
| "Staff detail (staff page only)" | Staff detail pages | Shows the staff member's profile and published snaps. When a snap is opened, the numbered pins on the photo take shoppers to product pages. |
| "Staff snaps (product page only)" | Product pages | Shows the snaps that list that product as a place to appear, on the product page. |
If you add a page-specific block to a page where it can't be used, the theme editor shows "This block doesn't work on this page". Store visitors don't see this message.
What to check before publishing
- "Publish to storefront" is on in the staff member's edit screen
- Products are tagged on the photo (photos without tagged products are not published to your store)
- Each pin is placed on the right product
- Every item under "Setup status" on the Storefront page is OK
- Each block is added and saved in the theme editor
- Photos and pins are easy to see on a smartphone too
Common stumbling points for first-time users
- I added things in the app, but nothing shows on my store
- Adding things in the app alone doesn't show them on your store. In the theme editor, add a block to the page where you want it and save. Also check "Setup status" on the Storefront page for anything that isn't set up.
- "Create template" doesn't appear in the theme editor
- You can't create the staff detail page template until at least one staff member is published. Add a staff member first and turn on "Publish to storefront". If it still doesn't appear, use "Run setup again" on the Storefront page.
- I added a staff member, but they don't show
- "Publish to storefront" may be off for that staff member. The staff list doesn't show whether staff are published, so check the staff member's edit screen.
- Only the photo I posted doesn't show
- Photos without tagged products get a "No products tagged" badge and are not published to your store. Tag products in the "Edit snap" screen and save.
- Photos don't show on product pages
- A product page only shows snaps that include that product in "Where to show this snap (product detail pages)". Check those settings, and make sure the "Staff snaps" block is added to the product page.
- I placed a block, but nothing shows
- "Staff detail" only works on staff detail pages, and "Staff snaps" only works on product pages. Check the theme editor's message to make sure you didn't add a block to a page where it can't be used.
