4 steps to get started
- Register a profileClick "Supervisors & Authors" in the left menu to open the "Manage Supervisors & Authors" screen. Click "Add new", enter the supervisor's or author's name, title, credentials, profile, photo, and other details, then click "Save".
- Assign to articlesClick "Article assignments" in the left menu to open the assignment screen. Use the switch at the top to choose "Supervisor" or "Author", then pick a person and set them. On the Free plan, you assign one article at a time with "Set per article". Bulk settings per blog and for all articles ("Assign per blog (category)" and "Assign to ALL articles") are available on the Standard plan or higher. You need a published blog post to check the result. If you don't have one yet, create and publish an article first.
- Add the app block to your themeIn the left menu of your Shopify admin, click Online Store to open the Themes page. Click "Edit theme" (shown as "Customize" on some screens) on your current theme to open the theme editor. If your Shopify admin is set to another language, the menu name may briefly appear in English as "Online Store" while the page loads. From the selector at the top center, choose Blog posts, then Default blog post. In the Blog post section on the left, click Add block, choose Apps, then choose "Author Profile - Supervisor / Author". Drag it below the article content and click Save in the top right.
- Check your storeOpen a published article and check that the profile appears as intended. Articles created after you installed the app won't show the profile until you click "Re-sync blog" on the assignment screen. Structured data (JSON-LD) is output automatically on every plan.
The "Getting started" page in the app shows the same 4 steps, with a button for each screen. It also has a button that opens the theme editor directly on the article template. The app's home shows the steps "1. Register supervisors & authors" and "2. Assign to articles". The initial setup the app needs runs automatically when you install it, so you don't need to do anything.
How do I choose between supervisor and author?
Register the person who professionally reviewed the article's content as a supervisor, and the person who wrote the article as an author. Each article can have up to 1 supervisor and 1 author.
To show the same person as both supervisor and author, create 2 profiles, one for each type.
What to check before publishing
- The name, title, and profile have no mistakes
- The type (supervisor or author) is correct
- The person's status is "Published"
- The person is assigned to the target articles
- The blog post template has the app block
- The photo and text are easy to read on smartphones too
Common stumbling points for first-time users
- The app isn't shown in my language
- The display language automatically follows your Shopify admin language. To change it, go to "Settings" > "Language" in the app's left menu and choose 「日本語」, English, or Tiếng Việt.
- I can't find "Home" in the app menu
- There is no "Home" item in the left menu. Click the app name (Author Profile) in the left menu to open the home page.
- "Apps" doesn't appear in the theme editor
- Check that you have opened the Blog posts template from the selector at the top of the screen. Some older themes can't add app blocks.
- The prices or plan names differ from what I saw in the App Store
- The prices and plans shown on the app's "Billing" screen are correct.
- A person shows as "Disabled" in the list
- This person was hidden with "Hide from articles" on the edit screen. Click "Show again" to restore them.
- I can't find an article in the assignment list
- Articles are shown 25 at a time, newest publish date first. Search by title, or click "Next" to open the next page.
- I assigned a person, but nothing shows on the article
- Assigning alone doesn't display anything. In the theme editor, add the "Author Profile - Supervisor / Author" block to the Blog posts template and save. Also check that the article uses the default article template.
- Only articles published later don't show the profile
- New articles need a re-sync before they appear in your store. On the assignment screen, run "Re-sync blog" or "Re-sync all blogs". For details, see "Re-syncing new articles and display issues".
- My per-article settings disappeared after a bulk setting
- Running a bulk setting for all articles or per blog overwrites the per-article settings within that scope. To reflect new articles, use re-sync instead of running the bulk setting again.
- I can't change a profile's type
- The supervisor or author type can't be changed after the profile is created. If the same person both reviews and writes, register 2 profiles, one for each type.
- I can't add a person, or a person shows "Unpublished (plan limit)"
- The number of people you can publish is 1 on the Free plan, 5 on the Standard plan, and unlimited on the Pro plan. If you are over the limit, people are published in order of registration (earliest first) up to the limit. The rest become "Unpublished (plan limit)" and don't appear on articles or in structured data. When you have reached the limit, you also can't add new people, and an error message with a "View plans" button appears. Hide people you don't need with "Hide from articles", or change your plan.
- Design settings or social links aren't applied
- Design settings such as layout, colors, and photo shape and size are applied on the Standard plan or higher. On the Free plan, everything except headings and show/hide settings uses the default design. Social links and a custom accent color per person are Pro plan features. If settings aren't applied on a paid plan, if the block doesn't appear, or after reinstalling, click the app name (Author Profile) in the left menu to open the home page, then click "Run setup" in the "Initial setup" section (optional) at the bottom of the screen. It's safe to run as many times as you like.
